Play/Improvisation/experimentation - with Natasha Higdon
2, 8, 16, 23 & 30 June
Each session with Natasha will be different, delving into play/improvisation and experimentation. The sessions will be working towards a performance at the end of the workshops that uses: ensemble, physical theatre, props, puppetry and immersive ideas for performance. The focus of the sessions will be on creating mood and atmosphere and working on the lived immersive quality of theatre using surreal stories and poetry.
Expect to connect with your inner child, with plenty of games and lots of fun to be had in a shared, safe and stimulating environment.
The June classes will be run by Natasha Higdon - Natasha is a Director, Theatre Maker, Lecturer and Reviewer - most recently, she was the movement Director for Macbeth at the NVT and was the Director of Salome - our first show in the current season at The New Venture Theatre.

Exploring The Winter's Tale by William Shakespeare with Andy Hoggarth
7, 14, 21 & 28 July
Often described as one of Shakespeare's 'problem plays'; The Winter's Tale veers from tragedy to comedy to the supernatural. In the depiction of a leader who uses his power arbitrarily according to his insecurities, it seems the modern and relevant of plays. But the pastoral comedy of the second half of the play seems to jar against this political tragedy. The magic realism of the ending again makes the story seem like a modern novel.
In these lessons I will aim to explore some of the ideas in this most fascinating of plays; focusing on three themes: tragedy; comedy and the magical ending.
No prior knowledge of The Winter's Tale is needed as we will be exploring the story together. No previous experience of speaking Shakespeare is needed as we will use this rich text to introduce some of the skills needed to act his verse.
Each session is "stand alone" and will have its own internal logic. It is great if you can attend all four sessions, but you can attend each individual class as a separate entity.
Andy Hoggarth is a theatre maker and drama educationalist. He is performing in at the NVT in Eurydice 20th - 28th June. Previously he has played Duke Vincentio in Measure 2 Measure. He is the artistic director of All Greek To Me, a theatre company that specialises in physical storytelling theatre adaptations of Greek mythology.
