reading:
Guantanemo -
Honour Bound To Defend Freedom
by Victoria Brittain & Gillian
Slovo
|
A play about the detentions in Guantanamo in Cuba,
based entirely on real-life transcripts. Guantanemo
premiered at the Tricycle Theatre last year, before
transferring to the West End.
This rehearsed reading is being organised by and on
behalf of the Save Omar group, which is
committed to working to bring home Omar Deghayes, a
Brighton resident, who has been held in Guantanamo Bay
without trial and without charge for over three years.

Blue Remembered Hills
by DENNIS POTTER
directed by Cheryl Brown
|
 "Isn't
that the one where adults pretend to be seven year olds?"
If Dennis Potter chose to have full-grown actors play his
pint-sized characters just to catch people's attention, he
certainly succeeded. But the quirky casting in this tale of
West Country childhood during the Second World War is more
than just a gimmick.
Often when we look at children at play or recall our young
selves and our playground memories, it's easy to do so with
wistful generosity. Those with more dry-eyed vision will know
that joy, pain, excitement, anxiety, laughter and dreams loomed
as large in our childhood as they do in our adult lives. When
our cast of "big kids" helps you revisit those "best
days of your life" the resulting drama and comedy will
leave no room for indulgent nostalgia ...
Last one to the box office is a sissy!

NVT Youth presents:
Grimm Tales
adapted by Carol Ann Duffy
dramatised by Tim Supple
designed and directed by Nick Beeby
|
 Fairy
tales nowadays have largely become sanitised and sugary. This
marvellously black adaptation of some of the Brothers Grimms
most famous stories returns to the original intention
grim!
The New Venture Theatres Youth Theatre production aims
to captivate and entice, converting the studio into a woodland
clearing where you will be surrounded by who knows what kinds
of danger and enchantment!
This is a truly ensemble production, full of magical animals,
mangy peasants and majestic royalty. Happy endings cannot
be guaranteed and indeed we cannot even be sure you will be
spared any blood and gore!
Enjoy!

The Beauty Queen Of Leenane
by Martin McDonagh
directed by Pat Boxall
|
 Set
in mountains of Connemara, County Galway, The Beauty
Queen of Leenane tells the darkly comic tale of Maureen Folan,
a plain, lonely woman in her early 40s who lives with her
ageing, manipulative and self-pitying mother, Mag. They are
locked in a battle of shrewd wits and iron wills, each spending
her days harboring ancient grudges, plotting revenge and reveling
in tiny victories. When monstrous Mag maliciously interferes
with Maureen's first and possibly only chance of a loving
relationship, she pushes Maureen one step too far...
This haunting Irish drama combines traditional story-telling
with savage ironic humour and won Martin McDonough four Tony
awards on Broadway together with the Evening Standard's Most
Promising Playwright award in 1996.
