The Last Resort
written & directed by NIK HEDGES and
ELEANOR GAMPER
|
 Phoebe
Fingerspoon has less than twenty-four hours to save Brighton
from doom. It's a mission impossible that will take her into
a world where time and space are strangely confused. Will
she succeed? Perhaps -- with the help (and occasional hindrance)
of a motley assortment of Brighton's more colourful characters,
including, of course, yourselves!

Come for a dip in the briny with Martha Gunn! Enjoy a spoonful
of tonic with eighteenth century health guru, Doctor Russell
... but don't accept chocolates from Christiana and definitely
avoid sharing your cod and chips with the legendary Brighthelm!
The Last Resort is a completely original pantomime,
written by NVT members, Eleanor Gamper and Nik Hedges, assisted
by the tireless efforts of a truly inspirational workshop
group.

by JEZ BUTTERWORTH
directed by Jim Polkey-Calderwood

Supremely crafted, this dark comedy raises issues of belief,
retribution and pruning. First performed at The Royal Court
Theatre in 2002, this will be one of the first productions
outside of London and New York.

Antony and Cleopatra
by WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE
directed by Martin Nichols
**** PLEASE NOTE ****
Production dates differ from the printed programme
|
 Antony
and Cleopatra was written at the height of Shakespeare's
career. Having achieved Hamlet, Othello and King Lear, he
could at last do what he wanted and in this play wrote for
himself. As a result, Antony and Cleopatra is a joyous
glory, riddling with radical and tender hilarity. A genre-busting
historical tragi-comedy, the play is both riotously sensual
and visionary, tongue in cheek and beautifully serious. What
else would you expect of a play in which Shakespeare, the
most fertile and creative artist yet known in the English-speaking
world, cast himself (a bit-part actor) as a eunuch?
The production will be set in the modern day, and any resemblance
you may notice between the recent imperial adventures launched
by Messrs Bush and Blair in Iraq and the historical events
narrated by the play will be wholly intentional.

NVT Youth Presents:
The Good Woman of Setzuan
by BERTOLT BRECHT
directed by Nick Beeby
|
 The
gods are disappointed! They created a wonderful world, but
now from on high, all they see is hunger, suffering, avarice
and cruelty.
Are there really no good people in this world?
The gods set off on a mission to find one -- just one. They
find Setzuan prostitute Shen Te, who appears to be good, but
she struggles -- and surely her profession must count against
her.
With a little help from the gods, she hauls herself up out
of the gutter, but staying out is tougher than she thinks.
This is where her 'cousin' comes in...
This Youth Theatre production will be colourful, musical
and exuberant! Come and see Setzuan at its most unglamorous
and ignoble. Great fun!
