The story of Alan Breeze, vocalist with the Billy Cotton Band
for more than 36 years!
Remember
Sunday lunchtimes in the 1950's & 60's? The Billy Cotton
Band Show on the wireless, introduced by Old Bill's ear-piercing
cry of "WAKEY, WAKEY" ?
Then you'll remember the show's famous vocalist, Alan
Breeze!
Alan started working with Billy Cotton in 1932, just on the
basis of a gentleman's handshake, & stayed with the band
for over thirty-six years. During that period, Alan became
one of the most popular vocalists of the time, entertaining
audiences on radio, television & in theatres all around
the country. In these days of nostalgia, his recordings are
still regularly heard on the BBC.
Alan's
daughter Olivia Breeze, (a talented & experienced
performer in her own right), has compiled a one-woman-show
about her father & his life with the band. The show is
being presented around the country in a series of performances,
directed towards the over-55's, at a variety of venues, ranging
from theatres to hotels, from restaurants to retirement homes.
The hour-long show includes stories & anecdotes, with
live and recorded versions of some of Alan's most popular
songs. Olivia is accompanied on stage by her musical director
Paul Davis, a gifted musician who has delighted audiences
in the South of England with his own Big-Band concerts and
Cabaret performances.
