A Number
by Caryl Churchill
directed by Strat Mastoris
|
Thirty-five years ago Salter couldn't cope with bringing up his son Bernard alone, so he put the boy into care and had his tissue cloned to produce a duplicate.
Now grown into manhood, Bernard the duplicate son discovers that he is a clone - hard to come to terms with, but not as hard as finding that he is not just a single clone but that there are multiple copies in existence... a number.
Being clones, Salter's sons are of course genetically identical, so the fact that one has become a criminal and another a well adjusted teacher has to be down to upbringing and environment - nature versus nurture.
As drama it's concerned with the reactions of the cloned sons to their shared existence; will they celebrate it or try to kill one another?

NVT presents a double-bill:
Shakers
by John Godber and Jane Thornton
directed by Louise Gregory
|
Shakers Restirred is the female answer to Bouncers, and is just as fast, slick and funny as its bigger brother. It is an excellent starting point for a great evening out, set in a cocktail bar that is the place to be seen in after work or before a club. Come and meet the waitresses that work it, find out about their hopes, dreams and disappointments as well as their customers! An evening out never to be forgotten, and that's before you hit the nightclub!

Bouncers
by John Godber
directed by Mark Green
|
The Cocktail bar has closed so now where do you go? The club! First of all you need to get past the bouncers, but if your name's not down, you ain't coming in. They've seen it all before – the pissed up lads, the hen nights, and the 'Z'-list celebrities. This time it's the bouncers that show us a vision of urban nightlife.

Plays For Coarse Actors
by Michael Green
directed by Brandon McGuire
|
The Cherry Sisters
Henry the 10th (part 7)
Streuth
Three short plays which fail miserably to demonstrate the beauty of theatre. A thriller, a Chekhovian masterpiece and an homage to Shakespeare's history plays are given Michael Green's coarse acting treatment, resulting in a masterfully chaotic evening in which everything that can go wrong with a production does so.
Confusion reigns, but the show must go on...
